A train company is offering 100 people the chance to travel to a Coldplay gig for free – but the ticket is not included.

Transport for Wales is offering train tickets to anyone attending the band’s gigs at Principality Stadium, Cardiff, on 6 and 7 June.

Coldplay will be visiting the Welsh capital as part of their Music of the Spheres world tour.

The band has teamed up with the rail company to “promote sustainable travel” to the event.

Those who wish to take part will be entered into a free prize draw and have until midnight on Sunday, 4 June to do so.

Marie Daly, chief customer and culture officer for Transport for Wales (TfW), said the company wanted more people to travel sustainably.

“At TfW we’re on a mission to transform public transport and encourage people to travel more sustainably,” she said.

“We’ve invested in brand new trains and started to introduce them to our network and we’re currently building the South Wales Metro to provide faster, cleaner and more efficient public transport.

“It’s great that a world-famous band such as Coldplay share the same passion for sustainable transport and we’re offering customers the opportunity to win a free return rail journey to Cardiff for the event.”

Cardiff Council said there would be a full city centre road closure from 4pm until midnight on both concert dates.

The council said it expected the M4 and surrounding trunk roads to be “very busy” and it urged people to “plan ahead”.
