While cleaning hacks go viral on TikTok all the time with many people boasting that they work, these tips and tricks don’t always genuinely get the job done.

In fact, some of them lead to more problems down the line.

Brenna Ryan, bathroom and kitchen expert at Victorian Plumbing, told Wales Online about the TikTok hacks which don’t work and should be avoided when spring cleaning, in an effort to warn others of the dangers.

Don’t use vinegar

Vinegar has gained popularity as a cleaning solution in numerous households, with online tips highlighting its versatility in various areas of the home.

While effective for tackling dirt and grime, it’s essential to exercise caution when using vinegar for spring cleaning.

The acid in vinegar can potentially harm certain surfaces like treated wood, laminate flooring, and natural stone such as marble and granite.

Don’t clean surfaces with lemon and bicarbonate of soda

While lemons can be effective for cleaning certain areas in the home, it’s not recommended to mix bicarbonate of soda when lemons when trying to remove stains from surfaces.

Lemons are acidic, while bicarbonate of soda is alkaline, resulting in the two neutralizing when they are combined.

The sticky nature of lemon paired with the abrasive quality of baking soda can create a messy texture and streaks on surfaces.
