The cost of living is something that has been on most of our minds over the past 12 months.

While many of us are looking to keep our bills low it is no wonder that many Brits are going to further lengths to ensure they avoid food wastage.

Thankfully, there are many ways you can change your routine and use up all of the food from your weekly food shop to reduce waste. But have you ever thought about drinks, in particular alcohol?

Do you ever struggle to get through a bottle of wine? According to NHS UK, it is recommended to not drink more than 14 units of alcohol. This amounts to around six medium (175ml) glasses of wine per week and spread across three days.

Supermarket giant Tesco has shared a warning to shoppers buying wine. If you’re like us and can’t help enjoying a glass of the good stuff every now and then you might want to make a note.

According to Tesco’s website, if you don’t plan on finishing the bottle with your partner or mate that evening why not freeze it?

You can pour the rest of the bottle into ice cube trays or a freezer bag if you have a larger amount.

Just make sure not to freeze the remaining content in the bottle. You can then add a cube to recipes as needed.

Tesco suggested giving the frozen wine an extra boost to gravy adding red to a Bolognese for depth of flavour or using white in risottos.

The supermarket also suggested freezing items such as bananas and avocados.

Courtney Pallett, Tesco campaigns manager said: “Your freezer is your friend when it comes to reducing food waste and avoiding throwing food away.

“Most of the foods that often end up in the bin such as bananas and avocados can be saved by freezing them to use later.”

Will you be giving this wine hack a try or do you have any other freezing food suggestions? Let us know in the comments.
