fans were pleasantly surprised last month when the Star Wars Celebration announced a new movie would be hitting cinemas in the near future to continue the story of Rey Skywalker.

The movie, which fans have suggested could be Star Wars Episode X or 10, is going to show how Rey has been living for the past 15 years of her last, after the events of the sequel trilogy.

Kathleen Kennedy, the Star Wars boss and Lucasfilm President, has already explained how it will show her rebuilding the Jedi Order into something new and helpful.

But will fans see the iconic Luke Skywalker make a comeback for the second time? Luke star Mark Hamill doesn’t seem to think so.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hamill was quizzed on whether he could return to guide Rey as a Force ghost. He replied: “No, I don’t have any expectations of that happening.”

This is obviously devastating news for fans of the series, especially considering it seems like almost anyone can become a Force ghost at this point.

In Han Solo () make a comeback from the dead to guide Kylo Ren as a Force ghost. Before that, Yoda made a return, as well.

And Kennedy has also commented on how Hamill’s involvement will likely not be a priority in the upcoming film.

Speaking at the Star Wars Celebration, Kennedy said: “I don’t know if we’ll spend a lot of time in flashbacks or [on] Force ghosts or things like that, but certainly, the spirit of what [Luke Skywalker] represents to [Rey] is going to be significant.”

She also gave some much-needed insight into Rey’s headspace, her mission, and what fans will see her doing in the coming movie.

“Well we’re 15 years out from Rise of Skywalker,” she said. “So we’re post-war, post-First Order and the Jedi are in disarray.”

Kennedy added: “There’s a lot of discussion around, ‘Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What’s the state of the galaxy?’ She’s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.”

At the moment, Star Wars Episode X does not have a release date, but it is expected to begin filming next year.
