In a service update this morning, Royal Mail told customers: “Weekend delivery and collection services are expected to take place on Saturday, November 4 and parcel deliveries on Sunday, November 5.
“Please visit royalmail.com/services-near-you for our Customer Service Point opening times, for you to collect urgent items for which we’ve left a ‘Something for you’ card.”
Royal Mail aims to deliver to all addresses it has mail for, six days a week. However, this is not always possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.
Severe weather conditions including significant snowfall, icy conditions or localised flooding can also impact Royal Mail services, with some streets becoming too dangerous to access.
The postal service explained that conditions can improve or deteriorate quickly, so risk assessments are undertaken throughout the day to ensure Royal Mail does all it can to get to as many addresses as possible.
When certain local offices are affected by delays, Royal Mail rotates deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.
The postal service also provides targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore service to a high standard.
Royal Mail apologised for any inconvenience caused by delays this weekend, and thanked customers for their understanding.
Offices most impacted this weekend
- Auchterarder SUDO (PH3 and PH4)
- Bristol South East DO (BS4 and BS14)
- Hailsham DO (BN27)
- Westhill DO (AB13, AB14 and AB32)
Royal Mail forewarned some disruption in one Northern Ireland town this weekend. The postal service stated: “There may be some disruption to our delivery and collection services in the Downpatrick area (BT30) due to severe flooding as a result of the river Quoile breaching its banks, making some roads inaccessible.
“The majority of services are operating where it is safe to do so, but there is some disruption to deliveries and collections – including post boxes.
“Collections from business customers are temporarily suspended. Where possible we’ll notify customers in advance if collections are not taking place. Our Customer Service Point is open, however usual access is restricted due to flooding.”
Royal Mail apologised for any inconvenience caused and assured customers that they will be updated when more information becomes available.
