It’s been over four years since Avengers Endgame when Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man died and Chris Evans Captain America aged and retired.
Both stars left the franchise but have said in various interviews since that they’d be open to a Marvel return if it made sense narratively speaking.
In fact, Variety recently reported: “Sources say there have been talks to bring back the original gang for an Avengers movie. This would include reviving Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, both of whom were killed off in Endgame.
“(That shouldn’t be a stumbling block — in comic books, beloved characters are often killed off, only to be resurrected thanks to the power of things like the multiverse.)”
Given that the MCU is now exploring the other universes means that variants of Iron Man and Captain America can return and new reports claim that both actors have signed on to return.
Respected scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently tweeted: “RDJ already agreed to come back.”
This follows their previous reports that the Iron Man star will be back for Avengers Secret Wars, the MCU’s 2027’s Endgame-level blockbuster to conclude its Multiverse Saga.
Additionally, they tweeted: “Sources confirmed that Chris Evans also agreed to come back for Avengers: Secret Wars. This was prior to the strike.”
Rumours abound that Avengers: Secret Wars will involve the likes of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man teaming up to save the MCU’s Avengers.
Presumably, both Downey Jr’s and Evans’ returns would be epic cameos saved for final battle cameos against the likes of Kang the Conqueror.
Avengers: Secret Wars hits cinemas on May 7, 2027.
