Enemies to lovers is a tried and tested trope for books and Hollywood romantic comedies. But few have raised the stakes as high as a British prince and the handsome son of the US President.

Especially when the fate of international relations between the two countries might rest on them figuring out how they feel about each other.

Casey McQuiston’s original novel topped bestseller charts on both sides of the Atlantic and is beloved by its army of devoted fans.

But can readers have their cake and eat it? So far, that trailer looks pretty good, with some key moments from the books and plenty of chemistry between the two leads.

And fans don’t have long to wait before the movie lands on Amazon Prime.

The cake, of course, features spectacularly in the opening setup when the feuding pair create a major diplomatic incident.

Taylor Zakhar Perez plays the charming and cocky Alex Claremont-Diaz, son of the US President, played here by Uma Thurman.

Rising British star Nicholas Galitzine, recently seen in Amazon Prime’s modernised Cinderella, plays the buttoned-up Prince Henry, who has been hiding a huge secret all his life.

Forced into a staged friendship to mend the diplomatic drama, they find they have rather more in common than they ever imagined – but will love be enough?

The trailer and images have confirmed that other fan-favourite moments from the book will be included, from a romantic late-night private visit to The Victoria and Albert Museum to the hilarious moment Henry quite literally falls out of the closet.

As if the cast and beautiful source material aren’t enough to get fans excited, the film marks the writing and directing debut of Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López, who stunned London’s West End and then Broadway with his extraordinary and heartbreaking gay play The Inheritance.
