A few months prior to the release of Daniel Craig’s explosive 007 death in No Time To Die and half the rights of the James Bond franchise were purchased by Amazon.
It’s been over three years since then and is likely why the next Bond reboot is taking so long.
According to The Times, the business model is changing now that the gigantic corporation has bought MGM for $8.5 billion.
Creative control may stay with EON Productions, but producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson can now radically change how they plan the next instalments in the franchise.
Previously, MGM could only afford to focus on one film at a time, but now with the much wealthier Amazon, they can plan out a series of three or four movies.
A long-term plan with a good gap after No Time To Die also makes sense given that EON did what they’d never done before in killing off Craig’s Bond.
Rumours are that an announcement of the new 007 could be as early as November if not early next year, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson being the bookies’ favourite. Whatever the case, EON will no doubt take their time to get it right.
