In a couple of months it will have been two years since Daniel Craig concluded is tenure as James Bond.

Since then, fans have been speculating over the reboot from who the new star will be to whoever will helm the project.

This week Christopher Nolan has expressed interest in taking on the 007 franchise after Oppenheimer.

Meanwhile, GoldenEye and Casino Royale director Matthew Vaughn exclusively told Express.co.uk that he’d love to reboot Bond for a third time.

Nevertheless, it’s the name of another filmmaker with links to bookies’ favourites Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson who is rumoured to be the “top choice” to direct Bond 26.

Take this all with a heavy pinch of salt but Giant Freakin Robot’s sources tell them that Matthew Vaughn is the “top choice” to direct the next Bond movie.

The 52-year-old is best known for his Bond-inspired Kingsman spy movies and is set to release another blockbuster in the genre called Argylle.

What’s even more interesting about Vaughn is that he’s directed Taylor-Johnson in Kick-Ass and The King’s Man.

Meanwhile, the director’s next spy movie Argylle (set for release on February 2, 2024) stars Cavill in the title role.

And regarding the fact that both actors are top favourites at the bookies to be the next Bond is something that Vaughn is well aware of.

Speaking to press around the release of The King’s Man, Vaughn said: “Henry Cavill, that man was born to play Bond. When you see how he is in this film, I was just like, wow, this guy is everything you’d imagine Bond to have been, or be.”

However, if Cavill is to become 007, the director said at the time that he didn’t think he’d be the one to direct the project.

Interestingly he said then: “More important, I don’t think the Bond people would touch me with a stick. They don’t like me. You know, to be blunt. I love Bond. It’s obviously a huge influence on me. Argylle… just wait until you see Argylle.”
