A poll involving 1,000 workers has uncovered that a staggering 65% of employees find their productivity plummeting in the post-lunch hours.

The primary culprits for this decline are being chained to a desk all day (35%) and the sheer length of the workday (29%).

Additional factors like a hefty lunch (23%), a restless night’s sleep (27%), and morning work intensity (19%) also play a part in the afternoon energy crash. A lack of physical activity (18%) and insufficient caffeine intake (14%) were cited as other contributors to the dip in work efficiency.

To counteract the drowsy spell, many employees adopt strategies such as taking a break from their desks (45%), doing stretches (27%), or tuning into music (23%). Other tactics include listening to motivational podcasts (10%), grabbing a caffeinated beverage (32%), or even sneaking in a quick power nap (13%).

This study was orchestrated by Emmi CAFFE LATTE in collaboration with fitness guru Mr Motivator, aiming to reinvigorate workers during their lethargic phase and transform their day into a productive one.

Donning his trademark vibrant Lycra, the fitness legend, real name Derrick Evans, aged 71, led a lively 15-minute exercise session set to music for the staff at Manchester’s Media City.

Mr Motivator commented: “We start the day with the best of intentions, but sitting behind a desk all day can be a real challenge. It’s super important to get moving whenever we can -big or small, every bit counts.”

“It’ll boost your health, your mood, and most importantly, your motivation. Office workers, you’re my perfect crowd for a pick-me-up, especially after lunch when that energy dip hits hardest.”

He adds: “So, get up from that desk, shake it out with some easy stretches or a brisk walk outside in the fresh air you’ll feel fantastic during and afterwards! “.

A significant 63% of those surveyed, via OnePoll.com, agreed that the afternoon slump is indeed a real phenomenon. As many as 34% tend to postpone any unfinished work until the next day when they hit their lull, demonstrating the impact on productivity.

A spokesperson for Emmi CAFFE LATTE said: “Mr Motivator is the perfect person to inspire the nation. We’re eager to applaud the nation’s accomplishments, no matter how big or small, and this serotonin-boosting workout evidently helped people shake off their slump and complete their tasks.”

“The research highlights how diet, lack of exercise and poor sleep can affect the level of motivation people have during the workday and we’re all too familiar with that afternoon dip.”

“Typical ways to wake up from that slump include stepping away from the desk and having a quick stretch, but what better way to get moving than a visit from Mr Motivator himself.”
