Declan Rice has been advised by Ally McCoist to snub a move to Manchester United in favour of Arsenal as he believes the Gunners are currently best equipped to catch Manchester City. The West Ham midfielder has regularly been linked with a move away from the London Stadium.

But it appears as though West Ham are resigned to losing their star man this summer with Rice rejecting multiple offers for a contract extension. The Hammers will still push for a fee in the region of £100million for the England international.

However, several clubs are desperate to bolster their midfield ranks this summer with Rice arguably the pick of the lot. United are ready to back Erik ten Hag in the transfer market with Rice being touted as a top priority.

But Arsenal have been the favourites to sign Rice for several months now and McCoist believes the Emirates would be the best fit for the midfielder. “It’s a funny one,” he said on talkSPORT.

“Over the weekend and over the season, if I’m Declan Rice and I’m weighing up my options, I am thinking I’d probably rather go to Arsenal than Manchester United. I look at Manchester United over the weekend, and I know they’ve won the League Cup, but they look as though they’re four or five players behind Manchester City.

“I still think Arsenal are well behind Manchester City, but I think they’ve got the potential to get nearer to them quicker.” David Moyes has seemingly accepted that Rice will leave for a club fighting higher up in the table this summer.
