Manchester United are reportedly set to make a final decision regarding their preferred bidder by the end of this week, with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani rivalling Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the battle to reach a binding agreement with the Glazer family. Sheikh Jassim, who has been leading a Qatari consortium throughout the entire takeover process, has tabled a proposal that would see him purchase a 100 per cent stake in United and its assets.
Ratcliffe, meanwhile, has submitted an offer that includes an option for two of the Glazers to remain at Old Trafford. Avram and Joel Glazer could be poised to stay on as minority stakeholders if the bid is accepted, which would see them continue to invest in the club without the power to make key decisions.
A number of social media accounts claimed on Monday evening that Sheikh Jassim’s offer had been accepted by the Red Devils but Fahed al Emadi, editorial director of Qatari news outlet Al-Watan, has since clarified that a concrete decision is yet to be made by those in power at Old Trafford.
He tweeted: “Contrary to certain media and social media reports overnight, Al Watan is not owned by Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, and Al Watan’s media report yesterday speculating about possible movement in the Manchester United takeover process was based on international media reports, as stated in the article itself, and with such news widely circulating periodically in international media for many months.”
