Romano’s report adds that Gvardiol has already agreed personal terms with City, meaning a deal would be a formality should the two clubs successfully conclude talks over a fee. Guardiola is said to be a big fan of the youngster.
Gvardiol can play at both centre-back and left-back, meaning he would fit into the role that Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and Aymeric Laporte all played last season. In defensive situations, they would be playing as a left-back up against the opposition team’s right-winger.
But when City regained possession, they would slide across to create a back-three. John Stones then moved from right-back to a central midfield position to transition to a 3-2-2-3 formation.
Meanwhile, Liverpool were always unlikely to sign Gvardiol this summer. They had already snubbed a £100m deal for top target Jude Bellingham, meaning a similar fee for a defender was out of the equation.
