The nation will enjoy the final bank holiday before Christmas this weekend with many people planning barbeques to mark the occasion.
But while most of England and Wales will enjoy a whole day off on Monday, August 26, supermarket staff will still be working.
Those planning to stock up on essentials beyond Sunday, August 25 may notice different opening hours in their local convenience and superstores.
All major UK supermarkets are likely to adjust their trading hours to mark the bank holiday weekend, so it’s best to be in the know before heading to the shops.
Express.co.uk has rounded up the opening hours for the nation’s favourite supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Marks and Spencer.
Lidl
Lidl shoppers will find all branches open as normal on Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25.
On bank holiday Monday, August 26, stores in England and Wales and outside the M25 are open from 8am to 8pm. Inside the M25, branches are open between 8am and 10pm. Stores in Scotland are open as normal on August 26.
The budget supermarket’s opening times may vary based on location, so it’s a good idea to use the Lidl store finder tool on their website to avoid disappointment.
Aldi
The budget supermarket chain has confirmed standard opening hours across its branches on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25.
Stores in England and Wales will then open until 8pm on Monday, August 26 while Scottish branches will close at 10pm as normal. Double-check your local branch’s opening hours using Aldi’s store locator tool.
Asda
Asda is yet to confirm when it will open this bank holiday. Last year on the August bank holiday weekend, the shop kept its usual opening and closing times across the weekend, so shoppers can grab some budget-friendly deals.
However, 24-hour shops implemented a closing time on the bank holiday Monday, which may happen again this August 26. Check the Asda online store finder to see your local supermarket’s opening times.
Sainsbury’s
Most larger stores will be open from 8am to 8pm while smaller branches will be open as normal from 7am to 10pm or 11pm in some areas.
Tesco
Regular hours remain in place at Tesco stores over the weekend, though on Monday, hours for superstores and large Express stores will vary. These will open at the later time of 8am and close at 6pm. Express stores will stay open as usual, closing at 10pm or 11pm.
Waitrose
Shops remain open for business as usual on Saturday and Sunday this week, though the vast majority of Waitrose stores will have shorter opening times on bank holiday Monday from 10am to 4pm. Those who live near a Little Waitrose may benefit from a slightly later closing time on Monday, August 26.
Marks and Spencer
Fans of the luxury supermarket will find that stores remain open over the weekend, so shoppers can treat themselves to the brand’s beloved baked goods and food.
Although opening times may differ for shops inside the M25, as opposed to shops outside of London, M&S is expected to stay open as usual.
Morrisons
Morrisons stores will open from 6am to 10pm on Saturday, and the usual Sunday opening times of 10am to 4pm this bank holiday weekend. On Monday, August 26, opening times will be reduced from 7am until 8pm in larger stores.
Smaller McColl’s stores – which are now part of the Morrisons brand – are expected to stay open as usual on Monday. Morrisons Daily may also open as usual, though it’s best to check online beforehand.
