The Prince and Princess of Wales’ tactile rituals appear to suggest they’ve reached a strong point in their love for each other, according to a body language expert.
Public displays of affection between Princess Kate and Prince William have seen an upswing in recent months, both at royal events and casual outings.
Though this could potentially indicate increasing love between the pair, behavioural analyst Judi James notes it may also translate into a power move.
The expert told Express.co.uk: “William and Kate have always treated their fans to body language moments of affection and love but these moments tended to be subtle and rare.
“This can be seen as a sign that their love for each other is at a very strong point and even increasing, but it could also translate into a power move.”
The PDAs come at a time that the royal pair was asserting their power within The Firm, which King Charles’ gesture confirmed when he chose to stand in an evenly-place line of four at his Scottish Coronation, noted Judi.
The move “seemed to acknowledge William and Kate as the ultimate royal Power Couple: stylish, popular and both oozing confidence as they are the face of the monarchy going forward”.
Judi continued: “Where they might have toned down their tactile rituals and loving glances as a nod to tradition while the late Queen was presiding over royal appearances, it is now probably their own decision when and how much they exchange PDAs.”
William, a traditionalist, throws a few glances and smiles in Kate’s direction at her public events, but touch has always remained seldom.
“Apart from love and power though, William must also have realized by now that he and his wife have got it right in terms of not becoming a soap opera,” noted Judi.
As a result, it appears the royals are becoming accustomed to the idea that they have the freedom to nudge the boundaries and give fans a glimpse of their feelings for each other.
“Their body language rituals, even their seriously sexy ones like the odd bum pat or thigh hold, will be of interest to the fans and the newspaper, but limited and not obsessive interest,” added the expert.”
“It’s also vital for the monarchy itself for them to feel relaxed about showing their love for one another in public.
“After a generation of marital disasters and divorces, the sense of continuity that comes from seeing the next king look happy and content in his marriage is important.
“William and Kate’s non-verbal signals seem to let us know the monarchy will be in safe hands in the future.”
