A common – and cheap – kitchen staple can be used as an effective deterrent for flies and ants in your home, experts say.
Flies spend the winter dormant in attics and walls and become active again when warmer temperatures start to rise.
They lay their eggs on animal faeces, garbage, and in rotting organic material.
In most cases, houseflies are harmless, but they can also carry viruses and bacteria that can spread when they bite.
They can give you food poisoning, E.coli, eye infections, and tuberculosis among other diseases, experts warn.
But there are plenty of easy and safe ways to get rid of them including using common kitchen items.
Cayenne pepper, which can be bought for as little as £1 in some supermarkets, is a brilliant natural fly and ant deterrent that also wards off many insects.
Combine one cup of water and one teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a misting bottle and spritz it near entrances and wherever you spot flies.
Flies hate the spicy odor of cayenne pepper.
Other natural fly deterrents include lemongrass, peppermint, eucalyptus, camphor, and cinnamon.
These natural solutions for pest control can do a fantastic job and leave your home smelling delightful.
As well as cayenne pepper and water, vinegar mixed with dish soap can also do the job of removing flies from your home.
Mix both in a glass bowl and cover with plastic wrap before poking holes into the top. Flies will be attracted to the vinegar in the glass and will fly through the holes.
