Hairspray is one of the most widely used styling products out there and is extremely popular around the festive period.
While it’s very easy to spritz over wavy locks or a neat updo to keep it in place, it’s not as easy to wash out again.
Luckily it’s easy to use while maintaining a “healthy look”, according to Cheryl Marks, a three-time Emmy-nominated Hollywood hair stylist.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she said: “Hairspray can be potentially harmful, but it does depend on how often you use it.
“The best thing you can do after using hairspray is to wash it out after your event or at the end of the day.”
She continued: “Hairspray can be drying at times and could dry out your hair as well as clog up your pores on your scalp, try using the Hask Argan Shampoo and Conditioner, to restore and revive your hair’s health.
“The shampoo has a rich lather and penetrates the hair shaft, gently cleansing while it repairs damage and breakage.
“The conditioner rehydrates and detangles hair. This pair works to provide your hair with a beautiful, healthy look.”
When it comes to continued use of hairspray, Cheryl recommended sparing it where possible and instead, using it in moderation so there is “little to no risk in damaging your hair”.
As New Year’s Eve approaches, it’s more important than ever to pay extra attention to the health of your locks.
The hairstylist said: “Christmas is here so most of us are styling our hair more often. Heat appliances like a flat iron or blowout brush, can wreak havoc on your hair, if you don’t take care of it properly.
“Keep your hair healthy and shiny by always using a heat protectant and a deep conditioner, like the Keratin Protein 5 in 1 Leave In Conditioner, which is fabulous for all hair types.
“Keratin is the hero ingredient which works to coat the hair shaft, reducing split ends and improving the hair’s appearance and manageability. The 5 in 1 Spray provides thermal protection which is critical when styling, controls frizz, hydrates, boosts shine and so much more.”
The Deep Conditioner is a smoothing treatment that leaves all hair types feeling moisturised, looking shiny and frizz-free.
This requires a little more time than washing alone, but Cheryl claimed that “your hair will thank you for it”.
For a winning combination, she suggested heat styling tools for heatless alternatives like rollers, or instead, swap heavily styled locks for a fun up-do.
