A gardener left neighbours baffled by attaching an obituary to his lawnmower.

The dearly departed electrical appliance was found on a front lawn alongside a note that read: “Died quietly while performing its duty today. May 22, 2024, at 1721 hours.”

Curious about the peculiar tribute, one local took to Reddit‘s r/mildlyinteresting subreddit to share a picture of it, sparking a flurry of theories from users about its cause of death.

One user suggested: “From the height and density of the grass, it looks like they clogged it. If you’re mowing grass that high with a push mower, you gotta ‘wheelie’ it and ease the front down, so it’s not fighting against the whole length of the grass at once.”

Another chimed in: “Probably used the wrong gauge extension cord and burned up the motor trying to mow grass and weed that were too tall in the first place. The mower didn’t just die. He killed it.”

And a third said: “It’s probably just bogged it down to hell. Shake as much of the clippings as you can out, take it to pavement, and just keep pulling the cord. Eventually you’ll pull all the fuel out of the carb and it will run again.”

Some users made light of the situation, with one quipping: “I hope when I die, I drop dead during work and they just leave me where I fell and put a sign on my back.”

A second penned a heartfelt tribute: “Let us pay our respects to this little mighty mower, who fought bravely against the overgrowth. May it mow many immaculate patterned lawns in lawncare heaven. Amen.”

A third chimed in with their own eulogy: “Farewell, Duramark, prince of lawn mowers, whose long and faithful friendship those who knew you won’t forget!

“Though your body will rust, your oil lingers on in the oil bay of other machines of your master’s home. May your many left spare tools ever flourish and your human friends find solace for the loss they have sustained.”
