Hairdresser @felicityynicole was shocked that so many people are washing their wrong and took to Twitter with some essential hair washing tips.

While most of us will have been washing our hair independently for decades, the hair expert revealed that we may actually be doing it wrong.

It had recently come to Felicityy’s attention that people had been washing their hair incorrectly, so the hairdresser shared some pearly words of wisdom with the world of Twitter.

Offering her “hairdresser tip for the day”, she said: “Y’all need to be shampooing your hair two times when you shower.”

She explained that the first shampoo cleanses the hair of any oil and product buildup, the second shampoo “can actually do what it’s intended to do”.

Her next tip was all about where the shampoo is placed – she revealed that dolloping it on all over the hair should be a no-go.

The hairdresser advised applying shampoo to just the scalp, allowing it to travel down the middle and ends of the hair during the rinse.

Conditioner should be applied in the opposite way, avoided at the scalp and only applied to the middle and ends of the hair.

This is because, according to the stylist, “too much washing can cause more buildup and damage to the hair”.

Twitter went wild with responses, with the original tweet receiving a whopping 276 retweets, 101 quote tweets, 2,475 likes and 246 bookmarks. When one user asked about dry shampoo, the hairdresser called this her “best friend”.

@julie_fain listened to the hairdresser’s advice and was very impressed: “So I saw this yesterday and decided to try your 2x shampoo advice when I washed my hair tonight… Omg THANK YOU!

“My hair honestly feels better now! I can’t believe what a difference that made—or that I’m 26 and just finally learned the right way to wash my hair from a tweet.”

@wh3lando joked: “I now have a good excuse to spend even more time in the shower. Thank you.”
