Another commented: “Bleach can yellow a lot of stains rather than removing them. I would try soaking his pillowcases in hot water with oxiclean and dawn dish detergent to loosen the oils.

“Another thing that might work is TSP (trisodium phosphate, used by painters to prep walls, available at hardware stores) its fairly good at breaking down oils.”

A third added: “You might try some blue Dawn dish soap – rub some full strength into the yellowed area and let it sit for a few minutes and then wash on warm or hot.

“Being careful not to use too much (don’t want an oversuds problem w your washer – depending on what kind you have). I would also try to change out/wash his pillowcases daily…if possible.”

A user said: “We have the same problem with oily skin. We simply put a scoop of oxi clean directly into the HE washer, add a regular amount of laundry soap into the dispenser, then wash with hot water on extended cycle.

“It might take a couple of washes to get the sheets back to baseline, but then this method maintains them at normal color.”

A fifth wrote: “I use 7th genrration dishwashing powder to soak and wash oily, yellow, grungy bedding.

“Then rinse and wash with hot water. Biz color safe bleach also works. Don’t use fabric softener, it coats the fabric in an oily film and makes it less absorbent.”
