TikTok has become a treasure trove of cleaning, organisation and repair hacks, but while these may fill up you ‘for you’ page, when actually tried some of these have perhaps not worked as claimed.
And recently some cleaning pros have raised concerns that some of these tips and tricks may be damaging your home, rather than helping you clean.
Luckily Nick Ross, a cleaning expert at Home Spritz, has been testing out cleaning hacks, and has discovered which ones actually work.
One that works quite well is using toothpaste to remove scratches from furniture, cutlery, and even mirrors. You simply just apply a small amount to a damp cloth and rub gently in circles.
This tip was shared on TikTok by @geezergal_diy, who demonstrated how she had used toothpaste to get rid of scratches on her antique mirror.
In the video, she said: “Did you know you could use toothpaste to get rid of scratches from mirrors?”
The TikToker then explained that you just apply some white toothpaste to a cloth and rub for 30 seconds, which should leave the mirror or any other item you’re removing scratches from, looking as good as new.
In the comments section, she added that while this hack is certainly useful it should only really be used on “small superficial scratches.”
According to Nick, this is one TikTok hack that does work.
Explaining his own method of using toothpaste to remove scratches, he added: “Apply a tiny dab of toothpaste to a damp cloth, then gently rub the scratch in circles. Once you’re done, wipe away any leftover toothpaste with a clean, dry cloth.”
Geezer & Gal’s followers were certainly among the numerous people impressed with this tip. One commented: “It worked!!!” While another shared that they would be trying it on their own mirrors.
