Ronaldo’s disastrous return 2021/22 season at United saw the club’s trophy drought extend to five years and their worst-ever Premier League campaign.
It was the first time he had failed to lift a trophy in 17 years, last not doing so as a youngster at the Red Devils in 2005.
Since then, he has claimed five Champions Leagues, five Ballon d’Ors, a wealth of domestic leagues and cups, a European Championship with Portugal and more.
But it’s looking like a genuine possibility that he may have to wait another year to add Middle Eastern gold to his trophy cabinet, which could be starting to gather a bit of dust.
