Eggs are a staple in many of our diets.
They serve as an ideal quick breakfast, a delightful addition to salads, or even a companion to your dinner – yet for some, mastering the art of cooking eggs remains elusive.
Fortunately, Michelin-trained chef Poppy O’Toole has shared her foolproof methods for cooking eggs. It works whether you prefer traditional poaching or the convenience of an air fryer.
For those who favour the ease of an air fryer, Poppy suggests a simple method that requires minimal effort but yields a deliciously jammy yolk.
To achieve a ‘boiled’ egg in the air fryer, she advises using a room temperature egg and cooking it “for 15 minutes at 130 degrees”.
If you prefer a softer, more jammy yolk, simply reduce the cooking time to 10 minutes.
Poppy personally “loves eggs poached”, although she acknowledges that poaching can be tricky. To avoid ending up with a pan full of egg fragments, she recommends adding a touch of white wine vinegar to the water and using a very fresh, fridge-cold egg.
Why does vinegar help when poaching eggs though? According to the culinary wizards on Reddit‘s ‘Ask Culinary’ forum, “The acid helps the whites set faster so they don’t spread into the water”.
Poppy O’Toole has partnered with McCain for the launch of its all-new range of air fryer fries, which is exclusively endorsed by Ninja, and comes in Deep Ridge Crinkle Cut and French Fries. The air fryer range is available now for £3.20 at Tesco, Asda, Iceland and more.
It’s not the only food hack the pro cook has shared with us recently. Previously, she shared her 15-hour method for super crispy roast potatoes.
She also provided a 15-minute air fryer meal many have been loving. It’s great for those days where you are super busy and don’t have long to throw something together – so would you give it a go?
