Berrettini gets his wish. With the players level in the fourth set at 2-2 the umpire announces there will be a short delay while the roof is closed.

Alcaraz and Berrettini depart the court to wait it out.

Before serving at 1-2, Berrettini told the umpire: “That doesn’t make sense. Do it like a changeover.”

The official responded: “It’s not an even game, it’s 2-1 at the moment and we like each player to have to serve as many games as the other.”

But Berrettini argued: “The more you’re waiting the more it’s getting darker and my game is tougher than his game, it’s not fair this way.”

The umpire added: “I understand what you’re saying but that’s just the way we do it.” But the 27-year-old argued again, saying: “When it’s raining it’s not like this, what are you talking about? If it rains, you stop.”

He finally got his wish at 2-2 after holding to love.
