Beauty expert’s mascara tip makes eyes look instantly ‘gorgeous’

The delicate skin around the eyes makes the area prone to turning creased, wrinkled or having dark shadows beneath the lower lash line, especially for those with a mature complexion.

While there are an endless number of products that claim to combat such skin concerns, the only instant fix is to correct them with makeup.

When it comes to the eyes, drawing attention away from the skin around them and onto the colourful iris is so easy to do with mascara.

This popular cosmetic is used to coat the lashes in a black formula which adds contrast, length and volume to the lashes.

However, according to beauty expert Nikol Johnson, there’s one extra step people can take to make an even bigger impact with this one product.

The US-based aesthetician and former model said: “As the years go by, many women feel that their beauty and radiance go by too.

“I don’t believe this. I believe you can stay beautiful, confident, and feel wonderful even if you’re past 40, 70, 80, or 100 years of age.”

In a recent video posted on her YouTube channel, Nijol revealed an “amazing trick to add to your beauty routine” that involves putting mascara on the lower lash line to open up the eyes for a more youthful look.

Demonstrating how to recreate it, she claimed: “Now, during that day would I wear bottom mascara – no. I don’t think any of us make a practice of wearing bottom mascara on those lashes below because a lot of people deal with transfer.

“You can use waterproof on the bottom. So you can use regular on top and then take a waterproof to do the bottom [lashes].”

When it comes to the actual application of lower-lashline mascara, Nikol claimed that celebrity Selena Gomez is to thank for the “genius” anti-ageing tip.

She explained that instead of applying the mascara directly to the lashes with the wand, it’s better to take a pair of tweezers and coat the tip of them with the mascara.

The beauty expert then took the blackened tweezers to the base of her lower lashes and gently squeezed the tweezers together.

A steady hand is essential for this as it involves squeezing the tweezers onto the lashes one at a time, which can be a fiddly job. However, the results are worth it, according to Nikol.

She claimed: “You’re going to see your lashes come together looking so gorgeous. I think this is such a genius idea of doing it.”

The final effect makes the lower lashes pop without actually coating them with lots of product and stops the eyes looking too overdone with makeup, while simultaneously drawing attention right to the widened iris.

As a fan of the hack herself, Nikol proclaimed that it coats lower lashes “so perfectly” and means you’ll “never get mascara all underneath” the eyes.
