And while they have very different personal styles – and different kinds of occasions to dress for – they have opted for similar looks several times.
The little black dress – or LBD – is a cultural phenomenon in fashion and a wardrobe staple for many women across the globe.
Both Meghan and Kate have rocked an LBD, and interestingly they opted for uncannily similar styles.
In 2015, back in her Suits era and before her royal days, the now Duchess of Sussex attended the Step It Up For Gender Equality’s celebration of the 20th Anniversary Of The Fourth World Conference On Women In Beijing in New York City.
She stepped out looking stunning in an LBD, a perfect nod to the popular style trend.
The dress was slightly off-the-shoulder and boasted a deep V-neckline. It was belted at the waist which accentuated the then actress’ fabulous figure.
It also featured a ballerina-style skirt, falling into pleats just below her knee.
The off-the-shoulder style, coupled with the nipped in waist and float skirt, created an hourglass silhouette.
Meghan went for very minimal accessories, forgoing any necklaces or bracelets in favour of dainty gold earrings. She wore strappy black high-heeled sandals revealing black polish on her toenails, and she also carried a blue clutch.
She swept her hair into an elegant bun and went for glamorous makeup, complete with dark eyes, fluttery lashes and rose pink lipstick.
In 2016, Kate stepped out at the Place2Be Wellbeing in Schools Awards wearing a strikingly similar black dress.
According to Kate’s Closet, this was the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi “Finella” Black Satin Midi Dress, priced at £995.
The satin number boasted an asymetrical neckline and Kate nipped herself in at the waist with a black belt featuring a diamond-encrusted round clasp.
Kate’s main accessory was her statement belt but she also went for some stunning diamond drop earrings. For makeup, she went for blush, pink lipstick and sparkly eyes. To complete the look the now Princess opted for black suede stilettos.
