Taking to Reddit, the woman explained how her neighbour had constructed a 10x15ft shed only one foot away from her fence.
However, according to neighbourhood rules, the shed should’ve been built at least 10ft away.
She explained: “The neighbour’s backyard behind me butts up against my backyard.”
She has a 6ft fence, and both she and the neighbour have “trees on either side of it so even in the winter there’s a decent amount of screening between us”.
She added: “Imagine my surprise one day when my youngest daughter came in and said, ‘I suppose you know that the neighbour’s built a shed right up against the back fence, right?’”

The woman “rushed out” and there in front of her was a “10×15 ugly a** shed literally a foot off of my fence”.
The woman “called her neighbour up” and he said, “he would come over and talk to me about it”.
She explained the neighbourhood rules, and “asked him if he could move it back”. His response? “Because of the slope of his yard and a drainage ditch, that was the only place that the shed could be”.
The woman was more “worried” about selling her house in the future, and if a survey was needed, “then it might become a big hassle”.
To appease her, the neighbour offered $900 (£717) to buy the land, but this wasn’t enough money.
Instead, it was suggested a new refrigerator would suffice, and the model she wanted cost $2,200 (£1,700) so that was the price for the land.
Some Reddit users praised the woman for selling her land for more than four times its value, but others said she would regret the sale in the future.
Someone commented: “So in five years, you’ll have a dead appliance, less land, and an unsightly shed in your view. Great job, guys.”
“Have to respect a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it – or extort as the case may be,” another wrote.
A third joked: “I will give them a microwave in exchange for their front lawn.”
